Historic cathedral cities

Cathedrals are landmarks, but the homes around them are not all in a historic close. This collection brings together cathedral cities with recorded heritage in their wider built-up areas, from smaller centres to much larger urban places. A conservation-area count describes designated parts of a city, not every street; the experience of living near the cathedral can differ sharply from living on its outskirts. Look beyond the landmark to local neighbourhoods, schools and the journeys you would actually make. The cathedral gives these places a common thread, not a uniform way of life.
