Coastal character

Coastal living can mean a town-centre beach, a promenade, a harbour or an estuary. These places bring together different kinds of waterfront rather than one model of seaside life. We use a named coastal feature only where its source supports it; otherwise the measured coastal setting is described cautiously. A home near the water and one further inland may have quite different access, exposure and daily routines. Compare the particular part of town you have in mind, including the route to the shore, rather than assuming the whole settlement lives at the water's edge.
